Stephen Peters, PsyD, ABN
Dr. Peters is a Board-certified Diplomate in Neuropsychology and past Director of Intermountain Healthcare’s Clinic for Brain Health and The American Fork Hospital Memory Clinic. For over a decade, Dr. Peters served in the role of Chief of Neuropsychological Services for a large neurology practice. He is a neuroscientist specializing in brain functioning.
As a horse brain researcher, he has given numerous equine brain science seminars and presentations throughout the US and Canada, and performed many brain dissections for students. He regularly presents at the Best Horse Practices Summit and collaborated with Maddy Butcher on Horsehead: Brain Science & Other Insights. Dr. Peters recently worked with Mark Rashid and Jim Masterson (Masterson Method) on a two-day equine brain seminar resulting in a DVD, Your Horse’s Brain: A User’s Manual. He often presents in joint seminars with West Taylor of Wild West Mustang Ranch, demonstrating equine brain science with the help of mustangs in the arena.
He is the co-author with Martin Black of Evidence-Based Horsemanship. An evidence-based approach to horsemanship involves assessing and integrating scientific findings to inform decisions and create best practices in horsemanship. Scientific findings in the neurofunctioning of horses’ brains and their application can increase one’s ability to understand and read horses.

Sarah Schlote, MA, RP, CCC, SEP
Sarah is a Registered Psychotherapist, Canadian Certified Counsellor, and Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner, and the former founder and Director of The Refuge: Centre for Healing and Recovery in Guelph, Ontario. She is also the founder of EQUUSOMA® Horse-Human Trauma Recovery, a training model with licensing approval from Somatic Experiencing® International in Boulder, Colorado, that focuses on understanding horses and humans from an ethological, attachment and neuroscience-informed perspective.
She has trained directly with Peter Levine (founder of Somatic Experiencing®), David Grand (founder of Brainspotting), Frank Corrigan (founder of Deep Brain Reorienting), Jonathan Tripodi (founder of Body Memory Recall), Kathy Kain and Steve Terrell (founders of the Touch Skills Training for Trauma Therapists and the Somatic Resilience and Regulation Training for Early Trauma), and Kate White (founder of the Center for Prenatal and Perinatal Programs), among others.
She has also trained in EMDR and parts work / inner child work from a variety of models. Some of her materials have been reviewed and approved by Stephen Porges (founder of the Polyvagal Theory) as well. Bringing a mix of embodied awareness and cognitive understanding, on a spiritually-grounded neuropsychotherapeutic foundation, Sarah is an engaging presenter with international presence and the ability to translate complex ideas into accessible and practical tools.
